With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Daniel Sturridge is linked with Liverpool and Tottenham.

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge is set for talks over his future with Liverpool edging ahead of Tottenham in the race to sign him, according to Goal.com.
Sturridge is currently undergoing treatment for viral meningitis but is considering his future at Stamford Bridge after falling out-of-favour under Robert Di Matteo during the second half of last season.
Goal.com claim that Liverpool are leading Tottenham in the race to land the 22-year-old, with new Reds boss Brenden Rodgers making Sturridge one of his top summer transfer targets and is preparing a £10m move.
The report also claims that both Liverpool and Tottenham have already made their interest in Sturridge known through third parties, but the Reds are willing to offer him a more attractive salary and regular first team football.
An apparent ‘source’ told Goal.com:
“There are a few clubs interested but Liverpool are ready to make a big move,”
“It would be a real statement for them and they could offer the player what he wants – in terms of money and playing time.”
Sturridge is keen for talks with Di Matteo after seeing his dreams of playing at the Euro’s vanish after losing his first team spot last season, and is fearful he may be hampered further after the arrival of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin.
The former Manchester City forward has two years to run on his current contract but has no intention of signing a new deal unless he can be assured of his future at the Bridge, so Chelsea may decide to cash-in now if Di Matteo doesn’t see him in his first team plans next season.
Liverpool are looking to strengthen their attacking options and Sturridge fits their remit of young players who could increase in value over time.
Tottenham meanwhile are also keen to add more options to their attack and Andre Villas-Boas was a fan of the player during his time at Chelsea, although Sturridge would prefer a more central role after being deployed on the right by the Portuguese boss last season.
Football-Talk Verdict
The signs are that Di Matteo doesn’t really rate Sturridge so a move this summer could be on. Both Liverpool and Tottenham need more attackers but with Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll vying for the central positions, it’s likely Sturridge would be played on the right again at Anfield.

Depending on the formation new boss AVB goes with at White Hart Lane, he may have more chance of playing in his preferred central role in north London. If he does leave Chelsea, i think playing time and his position are going to be the deciding factor for the player.

Simple, Liverpool have three strikers already, Carroll Suarez and Bellamy, so will Sturridge get game time, and will he play in the middle, I doubt it, will Liverpool be pushing on from a 4th place position spending upwards of £70 million to do so, I doubt that too, Spurs have one named striker in Defoe, he has worked with AVB before with success, spurs can match liverpool financially as we have seen with Sigurdsson, so it all points to a trip to white hart lane.

What’s the point of your comment, Okafor? Every mother f**ker knows that if Brendan wants a player, he would do his utmost to sign him. Okafor, don’t be an idiot. If you have nothing clever to say, just shut the hell up!

sending sturrigde out of chelsea means chelsea will be losing a very good player…let us all look at the bright side….though dan really messed up by is selfishness.but if you are really looking at him as a young lad that need correction….so Dan must stay and make thing right….I Believe Dan will change for better..and he will surelly make history with chelsea.

Not sure why Spurs fans, think all of a sudden they can match Liverpool in terms of financial spending: your highest earner is on 90k, reason BR didn’t want to offer more money York Gyulfi for the simple reason he is not good enough, come back when you actually WIN something hey

I hope Sturridge comes to tottenham. With talks of Defoe leaving the club, Sturridge’s athleticism, flair and creativity could help spurs fill in the gap. I think he would excel at spurs!
