Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Hold Further Talks Over £20m Deal
Chelsea are set to launch a fresh bid to sign versatile German forward André Schürrle which may spell the end of Daniel Strurridge’s career at Stamford Bridge
With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Chelsea plan a fresh move for a German international.
Chelsea are set to launch a fresh bid to sign German forward André Schürrle which may spell the end of Daniel Strurridge’s career at Stamford Bridge, according to The Telegraph.
The report claims that Chelsea had a £17m offer for Schürrle rejected by Bayer Leverkusen earlier this week with the Germans publicly insisting the 21-year-old with stay at the club.
However, it’s understood that further talks between the two clubs were due to take place on Tuesday night and Chelsea were ready to return with an improved £20m bid.
The European champions initial interest in Schürrle came under former boss Andre Villas-Boas, with the Portuguese boss seeing the player as a future signing. But despite the exit of AVB from the Bridge, the club are still keen to press ahead and try and lure the German star to London this summer.
Schürrle is comfortable playing in a central striking role or as a winger on either side, so would provide Roberto Di Matteo with plenty of options in the final third next season. The Telegraph also claim the Blues have agreed a £22m deal to sign Brazilian Oscar, with the transfer expected to be announced soon.
Should Schürrle also move to West London, he would join Marko Marin, Eden Hazard and Oscar as the new recruits this summer in what could pose to be a devastating attack next campaign as owner Roman Abramovich plans an assault on the Premier League title as well as trying to retain the Champions League trophy.
The move would however, bring with it real question marks over the future of Daniel Sturridge. The 22-year-old is recovering from viral meningitis but has previously expressed his frustration at playing out-of-position at Chelsea and saw his first team opportunities limited when Di Matteo took charge.

The signing of Schürrle would further increase the competition for Sturridge and could well spell the end to his career at Stamford Bridge, with Tottenham and Liverpool among the clubs monitoring his situation.
