Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Brazilian starlet Lucas Moura after sending officials to Brazil to wrap up the deal, according to the Mirror.
The report claims that United have sent chief scout Jim Lawlor over to South America to meet up with Sao Paulo officials in a bid to seal a £25m deal for Moura.
It’s understood that if talks go well, club secretary John Alexander could join Lawlor this weekend to help conclude the transfer swiftly, as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to tie up his third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell.
Sao Paulo are believed to be looking for over £30m for the 19-year-old attacker, but United are confident they will be able to strike a deal nearer to £25m and may be prepared to include Brazilian midfielder Anderson in any deal.
However, the Red Devils will have to fight off late competition from Inter Milan, after club president Massimo Moratti confirmed to the clubs website that they are in negotiations for Moura. When asked if discussions with Sao Paulo had progressed, Moratti said:
“Yes we have but the progress that has been made is to see whether or not there is a chance (to buy the player).
“Now we have to see if we can manage to carry it out. These are things that have to take place by putting everything together, which also means taking a look at our revenue.”
Moratti is quoted as saying by the Mirror
