Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed his interest in signing Sao Paulo ace Lucas Moura, but denied that a deal has already been agreed.
The 19-year-old is one of the most exciting youngsters in Brazil and has been hotly-tipped to leave Sao Paulo this summer for a big-money move to Europe.
According to Sky Sports News, the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan have shown interest in Moura, but United are now firmly in pole position to sign the player after sending a delegation lead by chief scout Jim Lawlor to Brazil to thrash out a deal.
Reports today have claimed the Red Devils had manage to strike a £26m deal to bring the attacker to Old Trafford this summer.
However, speaking at a press conference during the clubs pre-season tour of China, Ferguson admitted his interest in Moura and confirmed talks are ongoing, but denied an agreement had been reached:
“We haven’t reached an agreement,”
“We’ve shown interest. Until such time we reach an agreement we can’t say he’s ours.”
“At this moment we’re looking at other options in terms of bringing other players in,” he said.
“We’re not lying on our backsides doing nothing. We’re trying hard to bring other players to the club.”
Ferguson is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
