Robin van Persie Set For Dramatic U-Turn & Sign A New Contract With Arsenal?

Arsenal are growing ever hopeful that captain Robin van Persie will perform a dramatic u-turn and sign a new contract with the club, according to reports today

Arsenal are growing ever hopeful that captain Robin van Persie will perform a dramatic u-turn and sign a new contract with the club, according to the Daily Star.

The report claims the Dutchman has been hugely impressed by Arsene Wenger’s moves in the transfer market this summer as the Frenchman re-builds his squad ahead of next season.

The Gunners have already signed German international striker Lukas Podolski and French hitman Olivier Giroud, but it’s the imminent arrival of Spain midfielder Santi Cazorla that has really got RVP excited.

Cazorla is a regular Spanish international and is on the verge of a £12.65m move to the Emirates after undergoing a medical on Thursday and being introduced to his new team mates at London Colney on Friday.

The 27-year-old is expected to travel with the Arsenal squad to a training camp in Germany next and will be joined by van Persie who is yet to secure a move away from the club, despite releasing a statement earlier in the summer declaring his intention not to sign a new contract due to concerns over Arsenal’s ambitions.

However, the Star claim the Gunners are growing increasingly confident they can persuade the Dutchman to not only stay at the club but sign a new contract after an impressive summer of transfer activity in north London.

The mood at the Colney is said to have been lifted by the arrival of several established players and RVP has also been caught up in the renewed optimism at the Emirates. The Star also claim the 28-year-old has become frustrated by the lack of action from Man City, Man Utd and Juventus and is coming round to the idea of staying as he can now see Arsenal building a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.

This is an interesting report. On one hand it’s believable that Van Persie could be having second thoughts but it’s going to be difficult for the Dutchman to gain the trust of the Arsenal faithful after leaving them unimpressed with his ill-advised statement.

It’s still more than likely RVP will move on this summer but if Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez can perform dramatic u-turns….then why can’t van Perise do it?

What possible evidence is there to suggest RVP is having second thoughts.
He has not withdrawn his statement that he will not sign an extension to his present contract. Arsenal have signed replacements and he should now go.
We are moving on and are better and stronger without him.

There isn’t a team in world football that wouldn’t be stronger with Robin Van Persie on it, especially Arsenal. He hasn’t burned any bridges as far as I am concerned. He was right to say that Arsenal wasn’t ambitious enough to challenge for the league and the CL. But Wenger and the club have now gone a long way toward countering that claim. They have gone and are promising to go further to challenge this season and in the future ones.

Whether it was his intention or not Robin Van Persie has done the club a great service by kick starting Arsenal to do what is needed to challenge and to win. I would happily welcome him staying and to become an Arsenal legend. If the team agreed I would happily even return the captain’s armband to him.

If you thought that another striker of one half of RVP’s quality was going to be signed by the club you would be screaming shouts of joy. Do the same if Robin stays.

While I don’t disagree with the gooners above and have been disgusted with RVP’s behaviour regarding his loyalty to the boss, the fans and the club. Be realistic, footballers are often not the brightest and Van Persie is no exception. But, if he does now begin to see that he’s made a huge mistake in not trusting the boss, let him make his mea culpa and stay. Consider, what a strike force ew will have. What a midfield. You would have to say that we really can now challenge for the big time. But, if he leaves, we still are going to be awesome. Reasons to be cheerful.

How do you know he’s been “hugely impressed” with Arsenal’s new signings? Know him personally do you? What a load of made-up crap.

i do believe rvp was genuinely honest whrn he said be didn,t believe in the direction the board was taking.
But a month later, having taken so much criticism from the supporters, players and shareholders, the board had no other alternative but To open their check book .
So even if rvp decides to leave, we should thank him for having stired things up.

I hope he stays and if he goes, we cannot blame him. He is at an age where he needs to think of himself as well, his last chance. And we mut not forget, that we are in the CL mainly due to him, his goals were vital last season, we must acknowledge that. Hope negotiations go well and he stays, we will have a potent strikeforce….if he goes, we wish him well….life goes on. But lets not be too critical of the player.

man city thought they had enough attackers nd as such teves wud not be missed. You kno the rest of the story. Even sir Alex had to, at a point, beg Rooney nd Vidik not to leave. lessons to learn gunners. Accept rvp if he decides to stay. To forgive is golden.

Wenger better do something to the defence be it new players or tactical formation. I believe he is too obssessed with attack and that is why the gunners conceded 49 goals.Against MU last season ,he shd have played anti soccer like some other teams. Then the gunners wouln’t have lost 8-2.
Tactically he is naive and if the gunners continue to be beaten and unable to challenge, perhaps it’s better he goes. It’s time he stops being arrogant and stubborn otherwise the gunners will continue to let teams draw or beat them when even leading by three goals. Any manager losing a 4 goal lead is criminally negligent. At any other club Wenger would have been axed.

Mike Gunner, I agree with you that we could use some help at the back, but that’s all I agree with. “Tactically he is naive”! What the hell are you thinking? Didn’t we finish 3rd in the league behind two teams with a seemingly limitless supply of money and who can buy any player they want? That means that he was tactically better than 17 other managers. If Man U Chelsea and City played within the confines of their revenue then Arsenal would have won many trophies over the last 7 years and you would be saying Wenger is the greatest tactical manger of all time.

Arsenal fans should think about winning silverware and to be honest we will have a better chance winning something with him then without! Theres only 3 players who could replace him neymar messi or ronaldo we will never sign any of them so i can understsnd wengers desire to keep him and he hasnt clearly come out and said anything negative just a message why he wernt staying which shows he respects arsenal unlike nasri fabregas n so on also maybe he wantd to leave the door open to stay if arsenals ways change which they have drastically. He single handedly gt us into europe hes too good to let go i am a believer too that he loves arsenal when hes not playing hes watching the match on the sides just like a fan supporting his team if that aint love then i dont know what is.

Our addition so far made us competitive this season so i expect robin stay, cos now he’s convinced the club is hungry now..Up gunners!!! ProudlynaijaFish
