Chelsea are ready to push ahead with a £25m swoop for Bayer Leverkusen striker Andre Schurrle, according to the Mirror.
Boss Roberto Di Matteo is on the look-out for a replacement for the departed Didier Drogba and has given the green-light for the club to launch a move for the German forward.
The Italian identified Schurrle as a possible addition after being left impressed by the 21-year-old’s performances for Leverkusen last season, but he saw his opening bids rejected by the Germans – who were adamant they would hang on to the talented youngster.
However, the Mirror claim that Chelsea are now ready to return with an improved £25m bid, which is an offer that should prove to good to refuse for Bayer, with personal terms thought to be nothing more than a formality.
The European champions have signing young skillful attackers this summer with Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Oscar all making the move to Stamford Bridge, but Di Matteo wants to add a physical presence up front following the departure of Drogba, and Schurrle fits the bill perfectly.
