Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed Arsenal are trying to drum up interest in Robin van Persie while also giving his thoughts on missing out on Lucas Moura.

After United drew 0-0 with Barcelona on Wednesday night, Ferguson was quizzed on his progress in signing Van Persie after confirming in July he had submitted a bid for the 28-year-old striker.

While Fergie remains confident in landing the Dutchman ahead of Man City and Juventus, he revealed they are struggling to make any headway with the Gunners after making their offer. The Scot also hinted Arsenal are ready to sell their captain after claiming the Londoners are trying to negotiate with other clubs for the player. Quoted by Sky Sports News, Fergie said:

“We have made a bid and they (Arsenal) have been trying to negotiate with other clubs. We just have to persevere.

“Hopefully it will come our way. We are trying our best but there is no progress at this moment in time.

“I do not have a gut feeling on it at the moment, I must admit. We are not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal.

“It is difficult to say why they are operating this way. I do not know what their thoughts are because they are not giving anything away.”

Ferguson was then asked for his thoughts on missing out on Brazilian starlet Lucas Moura, after it emerged on Wednesday that PSG had agreed a €45million (£35.5m) deal with Sao Paulo, and the United boss didn’t hold back with his criticism of the French giants lavish spending despite the imminent introduction of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.

“I find it quite amazing that a club can pay €45million for a 19-year-old boy.”

“To make a mark on everyone – to tell everyone that PSG are here – they have signed Thiago Silva from Milan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“They must have spent about £150m in the last month. As you know, the only deterrent to that is UEFA.

“In the conditions of European football, you don’t qualify for Europe by winning the league or coming second – you only get in by invitation.

“That’s where, hopefully, UEFA can have some power. When somebody’s paying £45m for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game’s gone mad.”

Fergie is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Only a couple of weeks ago the senile don said “It is awful and beneath me to take transfer stories to the media”- but he did it- and now he is doing it again; whinging to the media about Arsenal not giving him the response HE wants!

Class is something he has been a stranger to since long, but now that he is finally sees his expiry date approaching by no less than his fierce City rivals, it is pathetic and sad to see how he is losing it.

Gone are the days he could double the bid of those who discovered talent like Ronaldo- or literally throw away 28 M on Veron’s et al-now others do it to him and that is a cardinal sin! He bought Bebe for 7-8 , then claimed he had never seen him play- I guess that is good management of money, unlike others.

Sad sad man, many can, but he can not see the sign “Has Been” on his face.

I second that, RVP is an over rated, later career, injury prone and insane gamble.

Not to mention OVER PRICED ego.

I’d much rather see Cavani at City than RVP, he truly is the striker Mancini would love to bring in more than anyone else. United desperately need RVP more so than City, so let him go there. Cavani is the man for Mancini.. go get him tiger !!

Why is Sir Alex making a noise like a kid? Dat was hw he critisized chelsea over hazard & oscar’s deal. After also agreed 2 match hazard’s fee. When ever he looses on any target player, he critisises d opponent. Hw much did he paid 4 rooney, rio, etc when they were 19-20’s? And even veron, barbetov costs him a fortune with d later only has 1 gud season at utd. Pls dnt disturb us if a player disdain u 4 anoda club.

This is the part that got me angry “. . .It is difficult to say why they are operating this way. I do not know what their thoughts are because they are not giving anything away. . .”

How about that old cargo selling rooney to man city?
So because they couldn’t get our classy player for a paltry 15million pounds, he is angry. He would be the one to criticize us for selling our star players to other teams later by referring to arsenal as a feeder team. Nonsense

why is the sir complaining so bitterly? He, more than anyone else knows players are sold for their value. But must arsenal sell because the player has declared that he will no be extending his contract with the club? didn’t the same happen to Rooney some time back? and didn’t he do all he could to stop him? is he the only-one who wants trophies and honers?how many players has he sold this summer? He should better stop complaining and pay the money or we shall go and give him to city for free so that they can lash them well well. why rash on the player because he says he wants to go.Its disgusting, to say the least.
