Chelsea look to have missed out on Alvaro Pereira after the Porto defender agreed a switch to Napoli, according to the Metro.
The Blues have been strongly linked with a whole host of right backs this summer as Roberto Di Matteo looks to add reinforcements at the back following the departure of Jose Bosingwa.
The Italian is thought to have made several enquiries for Pereira but the Chelsea boss has been unable to agree a deal with the Portuguese outfit, who have always maintained the Uruguayan would remain with them unless a huge offer came in.
However, the players situation has changed in recent days after he had a fight with a team mate in training and Porto coach Vitor Pereira has now decided it’s best if the 26-year-old leaves as soon as possible.
The Metro are reporting that Napoli have swooped in to take advantage of the situation and agreed an initial year-long loan deal that will cost them £780,000, with the Italian side able to make the transfer permanent the following year for just £7m.
If the Metro report is accurate, this leaves Chelsea with one less option available to them as RDM desperately tries to find a new full-back, and it’s believed he will now push ahead with a move for Marseille’s Cesar Azpilicueta who is available for around £10m.
