Arsenal drew their second consecutive game of the season with a 0-0 draw against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday. Here are my player ratings from the game.
Player Ratings
Mannone. 7. Given the it was Stoke City away, very good.
Jenkinson 6. Steady Eddy and no more today and that may be the story of his career. Wish he looked more confident when faced with a winger run at him.
Mertesacker 7. Woukd like him to be more dominant but he rebuffed most of what came his way. One header under real pressure near the end of the game was magnificent.
Vermaelen 7. Like his partner did all that was required.
Gibbs 7. Crossing has gone backwards this season so far but defensively he has improved. Played well and has the technique to add to our game. Unlike Santos he doesn’t charge forward, like it so much up there that he decides to hang around with his new mates, the forwards.
Arteta 6. Ok but needed to be more penetrative in his passing.
Diaby 7. Slowly, slowly this player improves after the injuries. On Sunday he matched Stoke players physically and pushed forward well. Dithers around the opposition box though. Will get sharper.
Cazorla 8. Plays the hardest passes (Arteta please take note) and most come off for him.
Gervinho 5. Just didn’t happen for him.
Giroud 6. Caused Stoke problems in the air. Defended well which at the Britannia is vital. A goal will do wonders for him.
Podolski 6. Started well which offers hope for the rest of the season but faded in the second half.
SUBS
Theo 6. One decent run. Could have been brought on earlier for the ineffective Gervinho.
The Ox 6. Looked fit so let the competition for places begin in earnest.
Ramsey 6. Ditto the competition for places bit but if he ever replaces Cazorla I’ve got a very large hat I’m going to eat.
