Brazilian Rejected Summer Switch To Chelsea, Claims Agent
The agent of new Manchester City defender Maicon claims the Brazilian rejected European champions Chelsea to link up with former boss Roberto Mancini again
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Maicon rejected a switch to Chelsea.
The agent of new Manchester City defender Maicon claims the Brazilian rejected Chelsea to link up with former boss Roberto Mancini again, according to Sky Sports News.
The 31-year-old was heavily linked with a number of clubs during the summer after it become clear he was leaving the San Siro, with the likes of Real Madrid, Paris St Germain and European champions Chelsea all interested.
The Brazilian right back eventually made the move to City and was one of five new players to arrive at the Etihad Stadium on transfer deadline day.
The players agent, Roberto Calenda, has now claimed that Chelsea were one of a number of clubs Maicon turned down in order to link up with former boss Roberto Mancini at City.
“He chose Manchester City after rather a long evaluation process,”
“All the top clubs who needed someone in that role came looking for Maicon, from Real Madrid via Jose Mourinho to PSG, Chelsea and others.
“Maicon made his decision when Roberto Mancini called, as he had started his Inter adventure with this coach seven years ago.
“There were times during the season when he thought about staying, as he is very tied to the club colours, but after seven years together it was only right that this story should come to an end.
“I’d like to point out that at no point did Maicon demand to be sold, even when there were important proposals in the past. Unlike others, he never put his foot down or made life difficult. He played every Inter game with the utmost determination.”
Calenda is quoted as saying by Sky Sports
Chelsea eventually signed Cesar Azpilicueta from Marseille to provide competition to Branislav Ivanovic for the right back spot following the departure of Jose Bosingwa.
