Chelsea have already found a replacement for long-serving left back Ashley Cole, according to Blues defender Gary Cahill.
The former Bolton stopper believes that Ryan Bertrand the perfect man to become Cole’s successor when he calls it a day at Stamford Bridge.
Bertrand has risen to prominence in recent months and is now pushing for a regular starting spot for both club and country.
The 23-year-old was a shock inclusion in Roberto Di Matteo’s starting eleven for last seasons champions league final against Bayern Munich, but more than held his own as the Blues lifted the coveted trophy for the first time in their history.
Bertrand has also broken into the England set up and was handed his debut against Italy in August while he also took part in Tuesday 1-1 draw with Ukraine at Wembley, and Cahill is sure the youngster has what it takes to replace Cole when the 31-year-old’s career comes to an end:
Gary Cahill told the Daily Mail.
‘I think he’s got a massive future. I think he could be the natural successor to Ashley when he moves on,’ he said.
‘He’s got everything. He’s really come to people’s attention after being chucked in at the deep end in the Champions League final and coped really well in it.’
