Arsenal beat Olympiakos 3-1 on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Gervinho, Lukas Podolski and Aaron Ramsey. Here are player ratings from the game by our resident Arsenal fan ‘Lloyd the Gooner’.
Mannone 6. Does he fill you with confidence? Didn’t think so. But his handling on the ground was sound.
Jenkinson 8. Excellent again. Not a huge threat going forward but he is beginning to look a bit special. Positionally caught out once or twice but his speed allows him to learn without being too exposed. Team GB missing a bloke for the 4 x 400? Send for Jenko!
Koscielny 6. Indifferent opposition and still not authoritative enough for me.
Vermaelen 6. I saw more of a skipper out there in his buccaneering style but not convincing in the day job at the back.
Gibbs 8. Very fine, stylish performance. He added plenty to the attack and not only locked up his part of the field but went looking for work. When Wenger was criticised for filling his side with foreign imports we knew he was looking for the right quality and attitude, Gibbsy has both in abundance.
Arteta 7. There were misplaced passes particularly in the first half but his intelligent positioning helps the team so much in the absence of a real holding player.
Coquelin 7. Gets the mark mainly for his energy which the team needed. Like Arteta his passing was off in the first half but settled down and allowed Cazorla to be an influence in the second half.
Cazorla 8. The creative hub of the tem as usual. Like most of the others improved after half time. The Greeks tried to rough him up from time to time but he wasn’t having any of it. A real gem of a player. Please stay fit Santi!
Oxlade-Chamberlain 6. Because he is intelligent and has a great attitude he will learn. Contributed well in the second half.
Gervinho 8. Goals, assists, he loves the centre forward role. Fine all-round display from the Ivorian. Just needs consistency now and we have a real player.
Podolski 7. The goal lifts him up a mark. The inside left (look it up) runs are becoming a real feature of our play.
Subs
Walcott 6. As a sub he did all that was asked. He stretched them and provided a threat. Better Theo.
Giroud 7. Gets the mark for the assist. Keep going big man.
Ramsey 7. Come on it’s a fair mark for the great finish.
