Chelsea are monitoring David Villa’s situation after his Barcelona future was thrown in to serious doubt following another bust-up with Lionel Messi, according to the Daily Star.
The Spaniard was involved in a furious row with the Argentinean superstar following Barca’s shock 2-1 Champions League defeat to Celtic on Wednesday night. This is the second time the pair have clashed this season and this latest confrontation could spell the end of Villa’s Nou Camp career.
Bosses at Barcelona are concerned the tension between the two strikers could develop into something that threatens team moral, as well as potentially affecting Messi’s form, so Villa could be set for the chop.
The 30-year-old striker has struggled to rediscover his past form after returning to fitness from a broken leg, and Barca are tempted to cash in now before his value falls any further.
The Catalans are keen to sign a new striker with Radamel Falcao and Neymar their top targets, and the sale of Villa would go some way to funding their plans. Chelsea are also interested in Falcao but are refusing to meet his £46m valuation and have been forced to look for alternatives, and the availability of Villa has alerted the West Londoners.
