Liverpool enter race for £12m striker after Crouch deal hits the rocks
Written by Football Talk.
Liverpool have turned their attention to West Ham striker Carlton Cole after being priced-out of a move for Tottenham’s Peter Crouch, according to the Daily Mail.
Roy Hodgson was keen on taking Crouch to Anfield but Spurs quoted £15m for the lanky striker leaving the Liverpool boss having to look elsewhere. It’s believed Hodgson has now contacted West Ham about Cole’s availability with the Hammers prepared to do business if a £12m bid is tabled.
However, Liverpool are relying on the money from the sale of Javier Mascherano to Inter Milan to fund new signings and that deal is being held up as Inter are waiting for Man City to complete a deal for Mario Balotelli.
Stoke City had a £9m bid for Cole rejected this summer but it’s thought Cole would not be interested in a move to the Britannia anyway, but the striker would relish a move to Anfield should the two clubs strike a deal.
