Rodgers: Suarez Is Going Nowhere
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has poured cold water over speculation linking striker Luis Suarez with a January move to Premier League Manchester City.
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Rodgers hits-back at speculation linking Luis Suarez with a move to Man City.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has poured cold water over speculation linking striker Luis Suarez with a January move to Premier League Manchester City, according to Sky Sports News.
There were widespread reports in Thursday morning’s national newspapers suggesting City boss Roberto Mancini had made the Uruguayan hitman his No.1 transfer target as he looks to shake up his attacking options when the transfer window re-opens.
It’s claimed that the Italian would look to sell either Mario Balotelli or Eden Dzeko and was lining up a £50m bid to try and lure Suarez to the Etihad Stadium as a replacement.
However, speaking at his weekly press conference, Rodgers has dismissed the reports by claiming he has no intention of letting Suarez leave and insisted the player is happy at Anfield. When asked by Sky Sports about a possible bid from City, Rodgers said:
“You will have to ask Roberto Mancini about that. There will be no bidding war, he’s staying here,”
“If we lose Luis then we have no strikers, so we can’t afford to lose anyone.
“He is certainly not someone we want to sell or move on. He has been a brilliant player to work with and we want to add to our squad, not take people out of it, especially a world-class player.
“Luis has already showed in the summer his commitment to the club by signing a new deal, he is scoring goals and working well.
“I’ll just continue to communicate with all the players and Luis in particular. Like I say, he’s very happy here.”
Suarez signed a new contract at Anfield in the summer and is currently the joint Premier League top goal-scorer with eight goals.
