Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to give new boss Rafa Bentiez an early Christmas present by splashing £128m on three of the world’s hottest properties, according to the Evening Standard.
After an excellent start, Chelsea’s season has faltered in recent weeks as a run of no wins in five league games has seen then blow a four-point lead at the top of the table to currently sitting four points adrift of Manchester City in third place. The Blues defence of their Chamions League trophy also looks set to end early as they face an uphill battle to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
The run cost Di Matteo his job but Abramovich is ready to rejuvenate his attacking options with three South American stars when the window re-opens, despite spending almost £100m on new talent in the summer.
Top of his wish-list is long-term target Radamel Falcao. Chelsea have been tracking the Atletico Madrid hitman for some time and are prepared to pay the £44m to trigger his release clause in his contract.
The club are also lining up a bid for Napoli forward Edinson Cavani, who has become one of Europe’s most sought-after players after scoring an impressive 81 goals in 111 games for the Italians since joining from Palermo in 2010, but the 25-year-old will cost in the region of £48m.
The third man on the wish-list is Porto winger James Rodriguez. The Colombian ace has been likened to Cristiano Ronaldo and 21-year-old has a £36m buy-out clause in his contract.
