Blues Told To Wait To Land £28m Striker
European champions Chelsea will have to wait to land Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle after the players father confirmed he won’t be leaving in January
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Chelsea will have to wait to land Andre Schurrle.
Chelsea will have to wait to land Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle after the players father confirmed he won’t be leaving in January, according to Sky Sports News.
The German international has been on Chelsea’s radar for some time now and the Blues were linked with a move in the summer after Schurrle impressed at Euro 2012.
The European champions season is in danger of collapse after a poor run of form and Roman Abramovich is believed to be willing to splash the cash once again and bring in another striker in the January transfer window.
Schurrle is understood to have a €35million (£28.5m) buy-out clause in his contract that allows him to leave for that figure in the summer, and it’s been reported Leverkusen may decide to sell in January in order to try and get a higher price.
Chelsea are ready to renew their interest as they look for competition for the struggling Fernando Torres and are keen to lure him to Stamford Bridge, but the 22-year-old’s father, Joachim, has ruled out any move before the end of the season, telling Sky Sports:
“We have plenty of time left until the next summer.
“Until next summer, there is no reason to move. Moving clubs before the summer is not an issue. Andre very much likes being at Bayer Leverkusen.
“It’s a successful team and the team plays really good football, too. We all simply have to wait and see.”

Leverkusen currently sit second in the Bundesliga but Schurrle has struggled to replicate his impressive form from last season, and has only managed to score 3 goals in 11 league games so far. Some critics have claimed the intense transfer speculation is a distraction and the reason for his inconsistent form this year.
