Chelsea Injury Update: Terry, Lampard & More…

Chelsea face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday and boss Rafa Benitez has given an injury update ahead of the game.
Interim boss Benitez gave the latest on Frank Lampard, John Terry and Daniel Sturridge as he looks to pick up his first Premier League win since taking over from Roberto Di Matteo last month.
The Spaniard confirmed that captain Terry will miss the Sunderland game and will also not fly to Japan with the rest of the squad for the Club World Cup next week after struggling to overcome a knee injury picked up against Liverpool in early November.
Striker Sturridge has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury and while tomorrow will come too soon for the striker, he may be on the plane to Japan next week.
However, there is more positive news on midfielder Lampard who is back in the squad for Saturday’s clash after recovering from a calf complaint. Benitez told Chelsea’s official website:
“Daniel Sturridge has been training but it’s too early for him, so he will not travel to Sunderland, ‘We will see if he can fly with us to Japan at a later date.
‘John Terry will not fly because the doctor has warned of an inflammation and said that flying is not the best idea, so he will stay here and obviously miss the Sunderland game as well.
‘Frank Lampard has been training today, he’s in the squad for Sunderland and if everything is fine he will come to Japan. At least we have one important player back because we need character and experience.’
