Chelsea vs Corinthians Preview, Team News, Likely Line-up & Predicted Score
Chelsea play South American champions Corinthians in the final of the Club World Cup on Sunday. Here is a preview, team news likely line-ups and predicted score
Chelsea will play South American champions Corinthians in the final of the Club World Cup in Japan on Sunday morning.
The European champions reached the final after easily seeing-off Monterrey 3-1 in Yokohama on Thursday, with both Juan Mata and Fernando Torres getting on the scoresheet.
Interim boss Rafa Benitez has the chance to win a piece of silverware despite only been in charge at Stamford Bridge for under a month. The Spaniard will be keen to add the World Club Cup title to his CV having narrowly missed out on the trophy when his Liverpool side lost to Sao Paulo in 2007.
Corinthians are a decent side though and will prove to be tough opposition for the Premier League side. The Brazilians booked their place in the final with a 1-0 win over African champions Al Ahly on Wednesday.
Chelsea have picked up no fresh injury concerns following the midweek win so Rafa Benitez has the same squad to choose from.
It’s expected that he will field the same starting line-up which means David Luiz will continue to play in midfield after impressing against Monterrey in that role on Wednesday. This would mean Frank Lampard would have to wait to make his long-awaited comeback from a calf injury.
Fernando Torres is expected to continue up front as he looks to add to his recent goal-haul that’s seen him score five in his last three games in all competitions.
Captain John Terry, Oriol Romeu and Daniel Sturride are all back in London recovering from injuries.
While Corinthians are expected to put up more of a fight than Monterrey and will no doubt bring their ‘samba flair’ to the game, Chelsea should have too much for the Brazilians and we can see the Blues winning the game and bringing the World Club Cup trophy back to London. Chelsea 2-0 Corinthians
