Liverpool Injury & Team News Update
Liverpool take on Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Boxing Day and manager Brendan Rodgers has given an injury and team news update ahead of the match.
Liverpool take on Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Boxing Day looking to build upon their impressive 4-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.
Ahead of the game, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has given an injury and team news update as well as explaining his decision to rest Joe Allen at the weekend.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the Northern Irishman confirmed that his squad is in good health and he has no fresh injury concerns for the Stoke match. The only long-term injury victim is Italian striker Fabio Borini who is continuing to recover from a foot injury.
“We’re in quite good health. Everyone is fine and working well, so we’ve got no problems.” Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com
Rodgers rested both Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen for the Fulham game at Anfield on Saturday and the Liverpool boss has revealed that he felt it was the right time to rest Allen due to a slight pelvis issue while also pointing to the number of games he’s played this season. He continued:
“I felt it was the right time [to rest Allen]. He’s also suffering a little bit in and around his pelvis.
“Add into that he has played twice the amount of games at this stage of the season than he had last year. He’s been playing in a lot of the games – sometimes up to three games in a week. Physically, that has been a big demand on him.” Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com
