Man Utd vs West Ham Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Manchester United welcome West Ham to Old Trafford tonight in their FA Cup third round replay. Here is a preview with team news and likely line-ups for the game
Manchester United welcome West Ham to Old Trafford tonight in their FA Cup third round replay with both sides hoping to secure a home date against Fulham in the next round.
United had to rely on a stunning last minute equaliser from Robin van Persie in the initial tie to secure a 2-2 draw and bring the Hammers back to Old Trafford for a replay.
Sir Alex Ferguson knows only too well that it’s been six years since since they last reached an FA Cup final and nine years since they last won the trophy, so he’ll be looking to put things right this season starting tonight against West Ham.
Team News
Sir Alex is expected to mix things up for the game with up to nine changes from the side that beat Liverpool on Sunday.
Wayne Rooney is in line for a recall after the striker recovered from a knee injury picked up on Christmas Day. Rooney is likely to replace the rested Van Persie and start alongside Javier Hernandez up front.
Nani is also fit again after two months out with a hamstring problem but Ashley Young and Johnny Evans miss out. Nemanja Vidic is fit but is expected to be rested with Phil Jones likely to play alongside Rio Ferdinand at the back.
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce brings an injury-hit squad to Old Trafford. He has only three fit defenders to choose from with Joey O’Brien and George McCartney both out so Daniel Potts is expected to be drafted in at left back.
Midfielder Mohamed Diame is pushing for a recall after recovering from a hamstring strain but striker Marouane Chamakh is ineligible for the cup.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Despite the expected ‘weakened’ team, United should still have too much quality at home for the Hammers. We expect Fergie’s men to book their place in the next round and secure a tie with Fulham. Man Utd 2-0 West Ham
