Tottenham Team News & Injury Update: Adebayor, Kaboul & More…
Fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur welcome Newcastle United to White Hart Lane on Saturday lunchtime. Here’s a team news and injury update ahead of the big game.
Tottenham Hotspur welcome Newcastle United to White Hart Lane on Saturday lunchtime looking to not only cement their place in the top-four but also leapfrog Chelsea into third place in the Premier League table.
Ahead of the game we have a team news and injury update with the latest on strikers Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe while boss Andre Villas-Boas also told the club’s official website that Younes Kaboul is closing in on a first team comeback.
Spurs are facing something of a striker shortage with the Daily Mail claiming Adebayor will face a late fitness test before AVB will decide if he’s in contention to face Newcastle. The striker returned back late from his exploits at the African Cup of Nations with Togo and must now prove his fitness at Friday’s training session before being considered for tomorrow’s game.
With Jermain Defoe ruled out for up to three weeks with an ankle ligament injury, AVB will be desperate for Adebayor to be available or he’ll be forced to deploy Clint Dempsey up front but he too will be feeling the effects of a long-haul journey after playing for the USA against Honduras on Wednesday.
Tottenham’s only other injury worries are midfielder Sandro – who’s likely to miss the rest of the season with s serious knee injury – and defender Younes Kaboul who is closing in on making a first team return from his own knee problem, according to Villas-Boas:
“Younes is making good progress,” AVB told TottenhamHotspur.com
