Chelsea Join Rivals In Chasing Highly-Rated Danish Starlet
Chelsea have joined Premier League rivals Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen, who’s expected to leave this summer
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea join the race for Christian Eriksen.
Chelsea have joined Liverpool and Tottenham in the race to sign Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen, according to the Express.
Eriksen has been with Ajax his entire professional career and has become one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Europe after breaking into the first team in January 2010. The Danish international has already made 150 appearances for the Dutch club and has contributed 27 goals and 48 assists during his career so far.
However, his time in Amsterdam could be coming to an end soon with the players contract set to expire in 2014 and he’s yet to pen an extension, leading to question marks over his future. Eriksen recently admitted that he didn’t know where he would be playing next season and said there was a 50% chance he’d change clubs at the end of the season:
“I can not say what will happen in the summer,”
“I started to prepare for the new season with Ajax, but I don not know if I will continue with them.
“There is a 50 per cent chance I stay.” Eriksen is quoted as saying by the Express
The Express claim Liverpool and Tottenham have been tracking the Danish playmaker for some time but the pair will now face competition from Chelsea who are also keen on luring the 21-year-old to the Premier League this summer.
The report suggests that the Blues sent scouts to watch Eriksen play for Denmark against Bulgaria in midweek and owner Roman Abramovich is now understood to be willing to sanction a move for the talented midfielder at the end of the season as the Londoners look for a long-term replacement for Frank Lampard.
