Cash-strapped Sporting Lisbon will aim to sell £10m-rated Spanish winger Diego Capel this summer with Liverpool and Marseille expected to fight it out for his signature, according to the Mirror.
Capel spent the first year of his youth career at Barcelona’s much-famed La Masia Academy before linking up with Sevilla in 2001. He forced his way into the senior set up aged just 16 and went on to make 126 appearances for the first team before ending a seven-year stint at the club when he was sold to Sporting Lisbon the summer of 2011.
The 25-year-old has impressed during his two years in Portugal, scoring 7 goals in 49 appearances so far, but the Mirror claim Lisbon will look to sell the £10m-rated winger this summer to help ease the financial problems currently hanging over the club.
The newspaper suggests Brendan Rodgers has identified the Spanish international as a potential target as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the top-four next season but the Reds will have to fight off stiff competition from Marseille with the French giants hoping to lure him to Ligue 1 this summer.

Capel has represented Spain at every youth level of international football but has just 2 senior caps to his name so far and has struggled to force his way into Vincent del Bosque’s squad’s in recent years.
However, his chances of representing his country may be boosted if he could shine in the Premier League, so the pacey winger may be tempted to move to England if Liverpool do follow up their reported interest at the end of the season.
