Reds eye Llori
First up and the Daily Mail are reporting that Liverpool are planning a summer swoop for highly-rated Sporting Lisbon centre-back Tiago Llori.
The 20-year-old was born in London but moved to Portugal as a youngster and joined Sporting’s youth ranks in 2006. The 6 foot 3 inch defender has impressed in their B team in recent months and has broken sprint records set by both Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo during their times at the club.
Liverpool are understood to be on the look-out for defensive reinforcements this summer after Jamie Carragher announced his decision to retire and the report claims the Merseysiders are keen on the Portuguese Under-21 international and they could snap him up for just £1.3m at the end of the season.
Rodgers boosted in Diakite pursuit
Next and the Express are reporting that Liverpool have been boosted in their pursuit of Lazio centre-back Modibo Diakite after the players agent revealed a deal to Napoli is stalling.
The newspaper claims Reds boss Brendan Rodgers tried to sign the Senegalese international in January but failed to close out the deal and it looked like he had missed the boat with a move to Napoli thought to be close to completion.
However, the 26-year-old’s agent has now revealed that while terms with Napoli have been agreed, the Serie A outfit are yet to seal the deal opening the door for Liverpool to renew their interest.
“We’re in a phase where we are quite far away, almost close to extinction,”
“We’ve agreed terms, but it seems that Napoli don’t have the certainty required to complete the transfer.
“We are at Napoli’s disposal, but I am obliged to look around as that is my job.” Diakite’s agent is quoted as saying by the Express.
While Brendan Rodgers is looking to replace Jamie Carragher this summer, the Express also suggest that the club could need further reinforcements at the back due to doubts over the long-term future’s of Sebastian Coates and Martin Skrtel.
