Fergie To ‘Make Room’ For Lewandowski With United Confident Of Beating Bayern To Striker
Sir Alex Ferguson claims he can make room for Robert Lewandowski and is confident of beating Bayern Munich to the Borussia Dortmund strikers signature this summer
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, more on the future of Robert Lewandowski.
Sir Alex Ferguson claims he can ‘make room’ for Robert Lewandowski and is confident of beating Bayern Munich to the Borussia Dortmund strikers signature this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Lewandowski has emerged as one of Europe’s most wanted strikers after scoring 74 goals in 132 games for Dortmund since moving from Lech Poznan in 2010, and a stunning four-goal display against Real Madrid in the semi-final’s of the Champions League last week heightened his reputation further.
The Mail claims United have been tracking the Polish hitman for 18 months but feared they may miss out on him this summer with reports suggesting the 24-year-old had already signed a pre-contract agreement with Bayern Munich.
However, the Bundesliga champions have since denied any agreement is in place and the report claims United will now make a £25m move at the end of the season with Sir Alex Ferguson believed to be keen on partnering Lewandowski with Van Persie next year.
Ferguson was quizzed on his interest in the striker and the Scot revealed that he doesn’t think Borussia Dortmund will sell their star man to Bayern Munich, believing they’d rather see Lewandowski run down the final year of his contract than sell to their bitter rivals, before claiming he could make room for the in-form hitman at Old Trafford.
‘The Dortmund fans are not going to be happy by what has happened. I don’t think the club will sell Lewandowski to Bayern. I think they’ll let his contract run out or sell him elsewhere.
‘Have I got room for him? I can find room for anybody good.’ Ferguson is quoted as saying in the Mail
Dortmund fans were left stunned last week when it was revealed that midfielder Mario Gotze would be joining Munich at the end of the season and it would be a huge blow to the club and their fans if Lewandowski was to follow him, so I can see why Ferguson feels they won’t sell to their rivals.
But if United do manage to lure the Pole to Old Trafford it seems likely that one of their current crop of forwards would have to make way, with Javier Hernandez possibly the most likely to leave.
