Arsenal & Tottenham Linked With 24-Goal Czech Striker
North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are among the clubs keeping a close eye on Watford’s 24-goal striker Matej Vydra, according to newspaper reports.
With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, could Matej Vydra end up in north London this summer?
Arsenal and Tottenham are among the clubs keeping a close eye on Watford striker Matej Vydra, according to the Express.
The Czech Republic international has been a revelation at Vicarage Road this season after joining Watford on loan from Udinese. He helped book a place in the Championship play-of final at Wembley with a classy brace against Leicester City last week to take his goal tally this season to 24 for both club and country, with his stunning form also winning him the Championship Player of the Year.
However, Vydra’s future remains unclear with his agent Ondrej Chovanec recently admitting his client is yet to decide where he will be playing next season – with a return to Udinese, staying at Watford or a move elsewhere all possibilities at this point.
“He is still under contract with Udinese for another two years. For the future we will see, everything is still to be decided.
“I have a great relationship with the Pozzo’s (Watford’s owners). We met last March and we agreed to take any decision at the end of the season.
“We have to find a solution that is best for club and for the boy. Both Udinese and Watford are doing very well, we’ll see…” Chovanec is quoted as saying by the Express.
The Express claims that north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are two of the clubs showing an interest in keeping the 21-year-old in England should Udinese decide to sell, while there is also believed to be interest from throughout Europe in the impressive hitman.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is expected to add to his strike-force this summer after heavily relying on Olivier Giroud through the middle this season. Both Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott have desires to play as the central striker, but neither have fully convinced when given the opportunity so a new forward could be on the cards at the Emirates this summer.
Spurs may also be on the look-out for another striker with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor only managing 16 goals between them this season, and Vydra could represent a cheap option for either club if they decide to follow up their reported interest.
