Chelsea Target Lewandowski After Refusing To Enter Bidding War For Cavani
Chelsea will target Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski after refusing to enter a bidding war with Manchester City and Real Madrid for Edinson Cavani.
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea are linked with Robert Lewandowski after going cold on Edinson Cavani.
Chelsea will target Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski after refusing to enter a bidding war with Manchester City and Real Madrid for Edinson Cavani, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The report claim new Blues boss Jose Mourinho has been given the green light to further strengthen his attacking options after agreeing a deal to sign Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen, and unsettled Lewandowski has now emerged as a serious target after the club refused to fight for Napoli striker Cavani.
The Uruguayan hitman has attracted interest from throughout Europe this summer with the Telegraph suggesting that Chelsea had a £42.5m bid rejected earlier this week, but Mourinho is understood to be refusing to meet the 26-year-old’s £53m buy-out clause and is now prepared to let City and Madrid battle it out for his signature.
However, a centre forward remains a priority for the Portuguese boss and the newspaper claims that he is now lining up a move for Lewandowski after Dortmund confirmed they wont sell their star man to arch rivals Bayern Munich, although Stevan Jovetic, Edin Dzeko and Wayne Rooney are also believed to be under consideration.
If Chelsea could add a potent threat up front to compliment the skills of Eden Hazard and Juan Mata they will become serious contenders for the Premier League and Champions League trophies next season. Lewandowski emerged as a sought-after striker following his four-goal haul against Real Madrid last season and would be an excellent addition if the Blues could pull it off.
