Liverpool’s Aspas Deal Being Blocked By ‘Furious’ Spanish FA
Liverpool’s move for Celta Vigo attacker Iago Aspas is being held up by the Spanish Football Association due to disagreements over the players representation.
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, could Liverpool’s move for Iago Aspas be in doubt?
Liverpool’s move for Celta Vigo attacker Iago Aspas is being held up by the Spanish Football Association due to disagreements over the players representation, according to the Mirror.
The report claims Aspas has a representation agreement with Jorge Santome and Carmelo Vicente that runs until 2014 but has been using the Barcelona-based agency PromoEsport – an un-aproved FIFA agent – to push through a move to Anfield.
The newspaper also claims to have seen emails from Ian Ayre that show the Reds managing director continue to negotiate with the agency even after discovering they were unauthorised. This has lead to an official complaint being submitted, with the Spanish FA understood to be ‘furious’ at the conduct of Ayre, Liverpool and PromoEsport to the extent that they are refusing to release the strikers International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
Without the ITC, Aspas can still complete his move and train with Liverpool but he would be unable to play in any official capacity for his new team. A Liverpool spokesman told the newspaper:
“There was a complication with the paperwork. For the deal to be completed both FAs have to release the paperwork and we are waiting for that to happen. However, we are confident that will be done shortly.”
The Mirror understand that the 25-year-old’s official agents, Santome and Vicente, have opened legal proceedings against PromoEsport through the Spanish Federation and are being backed by Celta Vigo and several other La Liga clubs, so this could turn into a messy affair for Liverpool and a once simple transfer now looks anything but.
