Liverpool Set To Spend £42m On Four New Players As Ayre Cancels Suarez Talks
Liverpool are lining-up a £42million spending spree to bring four new players to Anfield this week but striker Luis Suarez looks destined to join Real Madrid.
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are set to splash the cash but Luis Suarez looks destined to leave this summer.
Liverpool are lining-up a £42m spending spree to bring four new players to Anfield but Luis Suarez looks destined to join Real Madrid with Managing Director Ian Ayre cancelling a trip to Brazil to hold talks with the striker, according to the Mirror.
The report claims Ayre was due to fly out to Brazil to hold talks with the 26-year-old – who’s in the country representing Uruguay at the Confederations Cup – but the Reds MD has ditched those plans in favour of staying on Merseyside to conclude several new signings.
The £6m capture of Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas is expected to be rubber stamped this week once a glitch over paper work is resolved and the Mirror claim Liverpool opened talks with Sunderland on Sunday night over the £10m signing of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet – who will replace Pepe Reina once his move to Barcelona is finalised.
The newspaper also claims the club will open negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk today over playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan with a fee of £20m expected to be agreed for the Armenian international, while the Reds are also believed to have struck a £6m deal to sign Sevilla midfielder Luis Alberto – who’s expected to sign a four-year deal later this week.
If all those moves come off it will see Liverpool spend £42m on four new players within the space of a few weeks. To balance the books, the report suggests Andy Carroll is likely to join West Ham in a £15m deal but unfortunately for Liverpool fans it seems the club is also ready to open negotiations with Real Madrid following Luis Suarez’s latest comments.
The striker has made it clear he is keen to secure a move away from Anfield this summer with Real Madrid touted as the most likely destination. When asked what he would bring to the Spanish giants, Suarez said:
“I would give my soul every time I step on the pitch. I have done this with Uruguay, Ajax and Liverpool.
“It disturbs me that Liverpool are not in the Champions League and fighting for the Premier League which is where they should be.” Suarez is quoted as saying by the Mirror this weekend
The Mirror claim Liverpool are now ready to grant him his wish and with Madrid understood to be reluctant to meet his £40m price-tag, the Reds have offered a compromise by asking for highly-rated striker Alvaro Morata as a makeweight in the deal.
The 20-year-old forward is the top scorer at this summers European Under-21 Championships with four goals and he recently admitted he may be forced to leave Real in search of first team football.
“If another striker is brought in, I will have to think about what’s best for me and consider leaving. If I go, I would prefer a move abroad.” Morata is quoted as saying by the Mirror
Morata has made just 18 appearances for Madrid and with his path to the first team blocked by several big names at the Bernabeu, he could play a key role in Luis Suarez leaving Anfield this summer.
