Brazilian Ace ‘Couldn’t Turn Down’ Tottenham But Will Chelsea Hijack The Move?
Tottenham target Paulinho admitted he wouldn’t be able to turn down the chance to play for the north Londoners, but will Chelsea make a late move for the ace?
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Tottenham receive a major boost in their pursuit of Paulinho.
Tottenham have received a major boost in their pursuit of Paulinho after the Corinthians midfielder admitted he wouldn’t be able to turn down the chance to play for the north Londoners, according to the Mirror.
The 24-year-old has emerged as one of South America’s hottest properties over the past 12 months and a goal-scoring display for Brazil during a 2-2 draw against England earlier this month heightened his reputation further.
The Mirror claim Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has made Paulinho one of his top targets this summer and a £17m deal to bring him to White Hart Lane is understood to be close, although news that Chelsea could be set to make a late push to try and hijack the deal is sure to have worried many in north London.
However, Spurs received a major boost when the player dropped a huge hint that he’s heading to WHL after admitting he wouldn’t be able to turn down the chance to play for the Lillyshites – calling them one of the best clubs in England:
“It is a pleasure to be linked to such a great club like Tottenham. They have a reputation as one of the great clubs in England who play exciting, attacking football which suits my style.
“I couldn’t turn them down if they made me an offer. It would be a fantastic opportunity to play for Tottenham.
“I feel I am ready to experience football at the highest level in Europe and the opportunity to play in England is a dream.” Paulinho is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
Paulinho’s future is expected to be resolved after the Confederations Cup with Brazil due to take on Uruguay in the semi-final’s on Wednesday night. It seems the midfielder would be keen to play for Spurs but that could all change if Chelsea do in fact make a late bid to hijack the move.
Jose Mourinho could be in the market for another central midfielder with John Oki Mikel heavily linked with a move to Galatasaray in recent weeks, and Paulinho is understood to be in the Portuguese coaches thinking, so the end of the Confederations Cup can’t come quick enough for Tottenham so they can try and tie up a deal for the Corinthians ace before the Blues get a chance to make a move.
