Chelsea have confirmed they’ve reached an agreement with Vitesse Arnham for the signing of Dutch starlet Marco Van Ginkel.
After weeks of speculation, the west Londoners have announced that they’ve struck a deal with Vitesse and the 20-year-old will seal the move once personal terms are agreed and he passes a medical.
A statement on Chelsea’s website read:
“Chelsea Football Club and Vitesse Arnhem have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marco van Ginkel.
“The player will join Chelsea subject to a medical, agreement of personal terms and legal documentation.”
The midfielder emerged as one of Dutch football’s hottest properties after an excellent season last term that saw him score eight goals to help guide Vitesse to a fourth placed finish in the Eredivisie table – their highest position for 15 years.
His sparkling form not only won him the Dutch young player of the year but it also attracted interest from England but the Blues have won the race to sign the highly-rated midfielder, with the Telegraph claiming the deal is worth £8m.
Van Ginkel has come up through the youth ranks at Vitesse and has established himself as a first team regular since making his debut in 2010. He’s recently played for Holland at this summers European Under-21 Championships and made his senior debut against Germany back in November, so he’s certainly got a bright future ahead of him.
