Chelsea Suffer Cavani Blow As PSG Table Huge £49.3m Bid
Chelsea have suffered another blow in their pursuit of Edinson Cavani after mega-rich Paris Saint Germain tabled an improved £49.3m offer for the Napoli striker
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea suffer another blow in the pursuit of Edinson Cavani.
Chelsea have suffered another blow in their pursuit of Edinson Cavani after mega-rich Paris Saint Germain tabled an improved £49.3m offer for the Napoli striker, according to the Daily Mail.
The Blues have been strongly linked with a move for the Uruguayan hitman this summer and reports earlier in the week suggested they had made an official approach to Napoli for his services, but were still refusing to meet the Italians £53m asking price.
Now the task of signing Cavani has become even harder with the Mail claiming French outfit PSG have tabled a mammoth £49.3m bid – just shy of the strikers release clause figure – meaning Chelsea may now have to smash the British transfer record, which is the £50m they paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres, if they want to finally sign the 26-year-old this summer.
That would be a massive outlay from the Europa League winners, particularly on a player who’s yet to prove himself in the Premier League, and you’d forgive owner Roman Abramovich if he was more cautious about splashing £50m on a striker after seeing his last investment in Torres backfire.
The newspaper suggests boss Jose Mourinho is determined to bring in a big name striker this summer to spearhead is attack next season but with ambitious French side PSG throwing their money around, it looks increasingly unlikely that Cavani will be the ‘chosen one’.
