Chelsea Boost As Bayern Rule Out Luiz Bid
Chelsea have received a major boost with the news that Bayern Munich have ditched plans to make a move for defender David Luiz this summer, according to reports
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Bayern Munich rule out a move for David Luiz.
Chelsea have received a major boost with the news that Bayern Munich have ditched plans to make a move for defender David Luiz this summer, according to Sky Sports News.
Reports on Thursday claimed that the Champions League winners were lining up a £35m move for Luiz with new boss Pep Guardiola said to be a huge admirer of the Brazilian defenders and wanted to pair him alongside international team mate Dante at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern’s apparent need for defensive reinforcements was also highlighted by the news that Holger Badstuber looks set to be sidelined for a number of months after it was revealed he required a fourth operation to try and cure a troublesome right knee injury sustained last December.
However, the German giants have dismisses the reports linking them with a raid on Chelsea, with director Matthias Sammer insisting that they are not in the market for another defender and will put their faith in recent signing Jan Kirchhoff.
“We are not going to sign a new defender since we have already signed a defender this summer in Jan Kirchhoff.
“The decision not to sign a further defender is clearly to be seen as giving a fair chance to Jan.” Sammer is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News
Kirchhoff joined Bayern on a free transfer from Mainz earlier in the summer and the Germany Under 21 international is highly regarded in the Bundesliga and is expected to have a bright future in front of him. So it appears Munich have elected to put their faith in youth rather than splash out big money on a marquee name such as Luiz, which will be music to the ears of many Blues fans who would have been devastated to see the afro-haired crowd favourite leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
