Moyes Hits Back After Mourinho Admits Admiration Of Rooney
David Moyes has hit back at comments made by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho after he had earlier admitted he was a huge fan of Man Utd striker Wayne Rooney.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, David Moyes hits back after Jose Mourinho admits his admiration of Wayne Rooney.
David Moyes has hit back after Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had earlier admitted he was a huge fan of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
The 27-year-old’s future has been filling the back pages in recent weeks after former boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed he asked to leave the club towards the end of last season, and Chelsea are reportedly ready to make a formal approach for his services and offer him a fresh start in the capital.
Mourinho was quizzed about his interest in Rooney during a press conference on the clubs pre-season tour of Thailand on Friday morning, and while the Blues boss was reluctant to speak about another clubs player he did admit he’s a huge fan of the England strikers.
“It’s a tricky question because I cannot speak about players from other teams.
“But you know me, it’s not my kind of character to speak with a bit of hypocrisy and I always say what I think.
“He (Rooney) is a player I like very much but I can say no more than that. Being fast and direct, I like that, but he’s a Manchester United player.” Mourinho told Sky Sports News.
These comments appear to have irked David Moyes with the United boss seemingly growing tired of having to reiterate that Rooney will not be leaving Old Trafford this summer.
Moyes also held his first press conference after arriving in Bangkok for the first leg of the champions pre-season tour, and when asked for his thoughts on Mourinho’s comments, the former Everton man didn’t hold back.
‘Unless I was speaking Double Dutch last week, we said Wayne Rooney is not for sale.
‘People are entitled to talk about good players. I’m getting asked plenty of questions about Wayne.
‘Jose has been asked about players as well. It’s hard to keep repeating myself but I will – Wayne is a Manchester United player and it will remain that way.
‘I think Jose said, in his comments, that he doesn’t normally talk about other players. But it does happen.
‘I think I’ve covered all of the things on Wayne. I’ve given you everything about his injury.
‘What you must remember is that Manchester United is a football club and I’ve got a team, and this is not about any one individual.
‘I many ways, I’m only interested in the team. I will answer questions on Wayne, but some of them are just reverting back to things I’ve covered.’ Moyes is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
Rooney is yet to publicly commit his future to United and speculation of a move intensified after he returned home from the clubs pre-season tour after just one day with an untimely hamstring injury.
