Jose Wants Drogba Back At Chelsea After Striker Holds Secret Talks At Cobham
Jose Mourinho wants Didier Drogba to make a sensation return to Stamford Bridge after holding talks with the striker at the clubs training ground last week.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, could Didier Drogba be making a return to Chelsea?
Jose Mourinho wants Didier Drogba to make a sensation return to Stamford Bridge after holding secret talks with the striker at the clubs training ground last week, according to the Mirror.
The report claims Drogba visited Chelsea’s Cobham training facility last Monday where he spoke to Mourinho at length and it’s understood the new Blues boss made it clear he’s keen for him to return to west London this summer.
The 35-year-old still has one year remaining on his deal with Galatasaray so Chelsea will have to approach the Turkish giants and try and strike a deal. Should Gala refuse to sell or Drogba decides to see out the last year of his contract, then the Mirror claim Mourinho will still offer the Ivory Coast international a role at the club next summer when he’s a free agent.
So whether it be this summer or next summer, it seems a sensational return to Stamford Bridge is on the cards for Drogba. The powerful striker was linked with a move to the Blues back in January and around that time he said:
“It would be nice, not just coaching but to help the club.
“For Chelsea I gave everything and, of course, they gave it back to me. I feel at home when I go to London.” Drogba is quoted as saying by the Mirror
So it’s clear his heart remains in London, and only last week Mourinho admitted he’d love to have Drogba on board to act as a role model for the younger players in the squad.
“I can use Didier as a profile to persuade youngsters to follow me because he followed me from day one.” Mourinho is quoted as saying by the Mirror
The ‘Special One’ initially signed Drogba from Marseille back in 2004 and he went on to become one of Chelsea’s best ever strikers, scoring 157 goals and providing 71 assists in 341 appearances for the club during an eight year stay, so I’m sure he’d be welcomed back with open arms if he does end up making a return to the Bridge.
