Transfer News: Arsenal Miss Out On Midfielder | Spurs In Talks With Spanish Winger
Latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal miss out on Lyon attacking midfielder Clement Grenier and Tottenham hold talks with Real Betis winger Alvaro Vadillo.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal miss out on Clement Grenier and Tottenham hold talks with Real Betis winger Alvaro Vadillo.
Gunners miss out
First up and the Express are reporting that Arsenal have missed out on the signing of attacking midfielder Clement Grenier after he signed a new two-year extension to stay with Lyon.
The 22-year-old is regarded as one of France’s most exciting young talents and has recently broken into the senior national team, earning 2 caps so far. The Express claim he’s attracted interest from the Premier League with the player claiming last month that his current club Lyon has rejected an offer from Arsenal for his services.
“Today I cannot say if I will extend my contract,”
“I know Lyon have rejected an offer from Arsenal. Of course it’s flattering that clubs are interested in me.”
“It’s hard for me to talk about my future now because I’m not yet certain of it. I prefer to wait to be 100% sure of what is going to happen before I do it.
“I do not know where my future lies. I’m not 100 per cent sure of what I want to do. I look forward to this meeting to be certain.” Grenier is quoted as saying in the Express.
However, Grenier has now ended any hopes of moving to north London this summer after signing a two-year extension, and while the midfielder confirmed he had other options he was only interested in staying with Lyon.
“There was interest, but I only wanted to stay with Lyon,” Grenier is quoted as saying by the Express.
It’s been a frustrating transfer window so far for Arsenal and it appears Arsene Wenger will have to look elsewhere for if he wants to add to his midfield options this summer.
Spurs eye Vadillo
Next up and the Express again are reporting that Tottenham are in talks with Real Betis winger Alvaro Vadillo about a potential switch to White Hart Lane this summer.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of Spain’s hottest young talents and the report claims he’s already drawing attention from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Manchester United and Spurs among those keeping tabs.
However, it seems Tottenham have stolen a march on their rivals with the Express claiming the north Londoners are already holding talks with the players representatives after new director of football, Franco Baldini, recommended him to manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Vadillo made his debut for Betis aged just 16 becoming the second youngster ever player to play in La Liga, and he’s gone on to establish himself as a first team regular over the last two years, although a serious ligament injury saw him sidelined for several months in the 2011/12 season.
