With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool have opened talks over Brazilian attacker Bernard and Spurs are linked with a move for Benfica ace Eduardo Salvio.
Liverpool in talks for Bernard
First up and the Telegraph are reporting that Liverpool are in talks with Atletico Mineiro over the potential signing of attacker Bernard.
The 20-year-old Brazilian international has attracted interest from Europe after some eye-catching displays at this summers Confederations Cup and the Telegraph claim he has a £20m buy-out clause in his current contract.
The report suggests the Reds are keen to get negotiations under way in fear of being gazumped again by clubs who can offer Champions League football, as was the case with Henrikh Mkhitaryan who opted for a switch to Borussia Dortmund over Anfield two weeks ago.
Bernard is a versatile attacker who can play on the wings as well as behind the striker so he would provide Brendan Rodgers with plenty of option in attack if he was to make the move to Merseyside. However, a deal is not thought to be close at this point.
Spurs eye Salvio
Next up and talkSPORT are reporting that Tottenham have joined Manchester City in the race to sign Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio.
The Argentinean international has rejuvenated his career in Portugal after a failed stint at Atletico Madrid between 2010 and 2012. He initially impressed on loan with Benfica before making the move permanent in the summer of 2012 and has gone on to become a key member of Jorge Jesus’ starting eleven.
talkSPORT claim both Spurs and City have shown an interest in luring him the England this summer and while he’s understood to have a £52m buy-out clause in his contract, the 23-year-old could be snapped up for just £15m.
Spurs are yet to add to their attacking options this summer while Manuel Pellagrini has already signed a winger in the form of Jesus Navas, so it will be interesting to see either side decide to make a formal move for Salvio this summer.
