Chelsea & Spurs On Alert As Brazilian Attacker Issues Come And Get Me Plea
London duo Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been placed on alert after long-term target Willian reiterated his desire to play for a big club in England.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Willian once again expresses a desire to play for a big club in England.
Chelsea and Tottenham have been placed on alert after long-term target Willian reiterated his desire to play for a big club in England, according to the Metro.
The 24-year-old Brazilian attacker has made no secret of his dream to play in the Premier League in the past and he was strongly linked with both Chelsea and Spurs during the January transfer window.
However, despite much speculation neither London club was prepared to meet Shakhtar Donetsk’s £30m asking price and he eventually made the move to big-spending Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala.
Willian has once again voiced his frustration at not being granted his dream move to England during the winter and although he maintains he’s happy at Anzhi, he reiterated is desire to play for a ‘big club’ in the Premier League.
‘I tried to leave Shakhtar for over a year, but couldn’t do it, I had offers from big English clubs and from other places, but Shakhtar never accepted them.
‘I wanted very badly to go to England, but I have no regrets and couldn’t wait any longer to leave Shakhtar. They use to tell me one thing and then act otherwise.
‘Anzhi were the only ones who agreed to play for my release clause. I have enormous affection and respect for this club, but everybody knows that my dreams and desires haven’t changed.
‘I have the goal of playing for a big club and being in the spotlight to rejoin the Brazil national team but for now I’m an Anzhi player, and I intend to keep playing here with a calm mind.” Willian is quoted as saying in the Metro.
Willian is an attacking midfielder who can operate on the wings or behind the striker and while he’s no doubt a fine talent, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea or Tottenham would revive their interest in him with both clubs strengthening in his position already this summer.
Jose Mourinho has brought in attacker Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen and winger Kevin de Bruyne is also likely to get a shot at the Chelsea first team this season having spent last term on loan in Germnay.
Andre Villas-Boas has already bought Paulinho and Nacer Chadli to White Hart Lane, but Spurs could make a move for Willian if Gareth Bale completes a switch to Real Madrid – although whether Anzhi would be prepared to do business after he’s made just 10 appearances for them is unclear.
