With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea have confirmed that Hilario has signed a one-year contract.
Chelsea have confirmed that experienced Portuguese goalkeeper Hilario has signed a new one-year contract with the club.
The 37-year-old played back-up to Petr Cech and Ross Turnbull last season and was released at the end of the campaign when his last contract expired, bringing to an end his six-year stay at Stamford Bridge after signing from Portuguese outfit Nacional in 2006.
However, Jose Mourinho surprisingly invited him to join the Blues 25-man squad on their pre-season tour of the United States this week and it seems he’s done enough to persuade Chelsea into a U-turn and earn himself another deal, with the club announcing on Chelseafc.com on Thursday afternoon that Hilario has signed a new one-year contract.
After penning the new deal, the stopper told the club’s website;
‘It feels really good to sign a new contract for another year at the club, I’m very proud,’
‘I’m really pleased to be part of this great squad and I’m looking forward to working once again with Jose Mourinho.’
Hilario has only made 39 appearances for Chelsea during his six seasons but kept an impressive 18 clean sheets, including an impressive 1-0 win over Barcelona on his debut back in October 2006.

He will now challenge Petr Cech, Mark Schwarzer and youngster Jamal Blackman for a place in Mourinho’s squad next season, but realistically the best he can hope for is a place on the bench and perhaps a run in the Capital One Cup if No.1 Cech stays fit.
