Atletico Madrid Deny Liverpool Have Triggered Diego Costa’s £21.8m Release Clause

Atletico Madrid have denied reports suggesting Liverpool have triggered striker Diego Costa’s buy-out clause by tabled a £21.8m offer, according to reports.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Atletico Madrid deny Liverpool reports.

Atletico Madrid have denied reports suggesting Liverpool have triggered striker Diego Costa’s buy-out clause by tabling a £21.8m offer, according to reports in Spain today

Widespread reports in Friday morning’s newspapers suggested the Merseysiders had submitted a formal bid of £21.8m for the Brazilian striker, which would be enough to meet the players release clause in his contract.

It was claimed in the Mirror today that Madrid were prepared to cash in on the 20-goal hitman after bringing in strikers David Villa and Leo Baptistao this summer, with many suggesting that the Reds had identified Costa as the ideal replacement for want-away Luis Suarez – despite Brendan Rodgers insisting the Uruguayan wasn’t for sale.

However, according to Spanish publication AS, Atletico Madrid have informed them that they have received no offers from Liverpool or any other club for the 24-year-old attacker, with the La Liga outfit apparently informing the paper that there was no chance the player would be leaving the Vicente Calderón stadium any time soon.

So who do you believe; the British or Spanish press? If AS are accurate, it’s bad news for Liverpool and possibly bad news for Arsenal as it’s likely that any potential move for Suarez will be held up until the Anfield club find a suitable replacement, and it seems Diego Costa won’t be the man to fill the controversial strikers boots this summer.

I don’t believe Liverpool have bid £21.8m for Costa. Every other transer this summer which included a release clause, saw the buying club start negotiations with a much lower bid. Only when the selling club demanded the fee set out in the release clause did the buying club, reluctantly, offer that. Yet we’re hearing that Liverpool didn’t enter into any negotiations, just bid the buy out figure. The fact that Atletico Madrid have denied this, further convinces me that this news isn’t true.

I have no idea what ” I have no clue ” ayre is doing dragging his feet on deals. First papa now Costa just get the deals done if there’s money and bring in the players that suit the team.
If no more deals are gonna happen let’s just start the season hoping for the best.
Also sell that ingrate Suarez to a foreign team even for a loss it would be beneficial to the team in the long run. He’s an attention seeking drama queen who just wants to noticed on or of the field. first of all I’m a Ghanaian so u understand this is not the first time he’s messing with my teams progess

What are you talking about? Papa has just returned from a long term injury. To buy him for countless millions without being sure of his long term fitness would be madness.
With regard to Costa, Atletico have denied any bids and Liverpool haven’t commented. This appears nothing more that newspaper talk.
Finally, you appear to have done exactly what many of the tabloids wanted Liverpool supporters to do. That is to turn on our star player in the event that he stayed at Anfield. Fortunately you’re in the minority and most Liverpool fans are clever enough not to fall for it.
