Liverpool Make Enquiry For Brazilian Attacker But Tottenham May Launch Rival Bid
Liverpool have made an enquiry for Brazilian attacker Willian ahead of a potential £30m move but could yet face competition from Tottenham, according to reports
With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are in for Brazilian attacker Willian.
Liverpool have made an enquiry for Brazilian attacker Willian ahead of a potential £30m move but could yet face competition from Tottenham, according to the Telegraph.
The 25-year-old joined Anzhi Makhachkala from Shakhtar Donetsk in January for £32m but has been made available for transfer after playing just 11 games for the Russian outfit.
Anzhi’s owner has put the entire squad up for sale as he looks to drastically reduce costs after years of extravagant spending and it seems Willian is now been targetted for a move to the Premier League.
The attacker was strongly linked with a move to England in the winter window before his move to Russia and the Telegraph claim Liverpool have made an enquiry for his services and could now go in with a £30m bid.
The newspaper suggests that boss Brendan Rodgers has money available to make a marquee signing and Willian has emerged as a serious target after the club missed out on the signings of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Diego Costa.
However, the report claims the Merseysiders could face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur with manager Andre Villas-Boas understood to be a huge admirer of Willian’s and the north Londoners are also weighing-up whether to make a formal move before the window slams shut on September 2nd.
Willian caught the eye with some superb performances for Shakhtar in the Champions League in 2011/12 including a MOTM display against Chelsea in the group stages. He’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking midfield area and could be open to a switch to the Premier League to boost his chances of making the Brazil squad ahead of next summers World Cup.
