Toffees ‘Angrily’ Reject Manchester United’s £28m Double Bid
Everton have angrily rejected a £28m double bid from Manchester United for star duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, according to the Liverpool Echo.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Everton reject a £28m double bid from Manchester United.
Everton have angrily rejected a £28m double bid from Manchester United for star duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The newspaper claims that the champions infuriated the Merseysiders after valuing Fellaini at just £16m two weeks after his £23.5m buy-out clause expired, while they once again tried their luck with a £12m bid for left-back Baines.
The £28m double deal was swiftly rejected by the Toffees but the derisory nature of the offer has been seen as a way of unsettling the two players.
The bid will be particularly scathing given it came from former boss David Moyes, who should know better than anyone how much Fellaini and Baines are valued at Goodison Park, and the Echo suggest it’s left a bad feeling between the two clubs.
Fellaini joined Everton from Standard Liege in 2008 for a fee which eventually rose to £17.5m with add ons so United’s reported £16m bid actually suggests that the Belgian’s value has decreased over the last five years, despite the 25-year-old establishing himself as an important first team player not only with his club but also with the Belgian national team and he’s scored 32 goals in 174 appearances so far for the Toffees.
United already had a £12m bid for Baines rejected earlier in the summer so I’m not sure why they thought it would be accepted this time around, but one things for sure, the Old Trafford club are going to have to dig a little deeper if they want to sign the duo this summer.
