Willian To Undergo Medical After Spurs Reach Agreement For Liverpool Target
Spurs have beaten Liverpool to the signing of Willian with the midfielder due to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms after a fee was agreed with Anzhi.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Spurs are closing in on Willian.
Tottenham appear to have beaten Liverpool to the signing of Willian with reports coming out of Russia claiming the midfielder is now due to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms after the north Londoners agreed a fee with Anzhi Makhachkala.
Willian is one of several big names who’ve been made available for transfer this summer by the Russian club after the owner pulled the plug on his lavish spending in favour of a more frugal approach.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with the Brazilian international with Brendan Rodgers understood to be keen on bringing him to Anfield, but reports in recent days have suggested Spurs have also entered the chase and were willing to trump the Reds offer – believed to be £26m.
It seems as though the Londoners have been successful with a report by Russian media outlet Sports.ru claiming that Spurs have reached an agreement with Anzhi for the 25-year-old and he’ll now travel to the capital to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms. It stated on the website:
“Tottenham have reached an agreement in principal with Anzhi for Willian. The probability of the transaction is very high.
The player will now undergo a medical and contract negotiations”
Russian football news claimed on their Twitter page that the fee is 35m Euro’s plus a percentage of any sell-on fee.
If these reports are accurate it will be another bitter blow to Liverpool after the club missed out on the signings Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Diego Costa earlier in the summer. From Tottenham’s point-of-view though it will represent a major coup and Andre Villas-Boas will have added a real player to his ranks, although his acquisition would surely raise further question marks over the future of Gareth Bale.
However, nothing is official yet so until we hear something from the clubs in question it’s best to take these reports with a pinch of salt.
*UPDATE* The Daily Mail and several other British newspapers are also reporting that Willian has arrived in London to complete his move to Tottenham.
