Arsenal Open Talks Over Stunning £70m Triple Swoop
Arsene Wenger has opened talks with Real Madrid over a triple swoop that would see him blow his £70m budget on Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil.
As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal eye £70m triple swoop.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has opened talks with Real Madrid over a stunning triple swoop that would see him blow his entire £70m budget on Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil, according to the Daily Mail.
It’s been a hugely frustrating summer at the Emirates with the club yet to bring in any significant new additions other than the free signings of Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini.
Wenger has always maintained he wanted to sign top quality talent this summer to compliment his squad and the Mail claim he’s opened talks with Madrid and has received encouragement that a sensational £70m triple deal could be on.
All three players have publicly committed their future’s to Real in recent days and have insisted they don’t want to leave, but the decision could be taken out of their hands with the newspaper suggesting that the La Liga giants are listening to offers as they try and raise money to fund their record move for Gareth Bale.
The Welshman’s proposed move to the Bernabeu is still to be completed though and Real are reluctant to sell before the Bale deal is finalised, meaning Arsenal are going to have to sit tight before they can progress with trying to sign any of the Madrid trio.
It leaves Wenger playing a dangerous game that could backfire if the Bale deal drags until deadline day. Should that happen, Arsenal face the very real possibility of missing out on any major signing this summer. This scenario doesn’t bare thinking about and I dread to think what kind of backlash Wenger would be in for if it came to fruition.
The squad is clearly in need of some major investment and an already thin squad has been stretched further by long-term injuries to Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski – who was yesterday ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury.
The current group of players are well short of being capable of challenging for top honours this season and getting out of the group stages of the Champions League is going to be a tough ask in it’s self after we were drawn in a ‘group of death’ along with Borussia Dortmund, Marseille and Napoli.
So there is no doubt several new faces are required and all of Benzema, Ozil and Di Maria would be superb additions, but time is running out and Wenger is playing a dangerous game that could end in disaster if the cards don’t fall our way.
