Manchester United Fail With Moves For Midfielder Duo
Manchester United have failed with bids for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and Roma’s 30-year-old ace Daniele De Rossi, according to the Daily Mail.
As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Manchester United have failed with bids for Herrera and De Rossi.
Manchester United have failed with bids for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and Roma veteran Daniele De Rossi, according to the Daily Mail.
It’s been a hugely frustrating summer for United with David Moyes yet to make any significant additions to his squad. The new boss has missed out on several top targets including Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara, with a creative midfielder thought to be his priority.
The Mail claim he has now turned his attention to Bilbao’s highly-rated midfielder Herrera, but has seen an opening bid of £25m turned down with the Spaniard’s demanding the full valuation of his £30m release clause.
Bilbao club president Jose Urrutia confirmed a bid had been received but insists they will not negotiate.
‘There is an offer for Ander Herrera. We received it yesterday and we have informed that we will not negotiate for our players.
‘Our club is different. We create an emotional bond. Our objective is not to make money. For that a player should leave he needs to state his intentions to leave the club and pay the buyout clause.’ Urrutia is quoted as saying by the Mail
Bilbao have already lost star striker Fernando Llorente to Juventus and are understandably desperate to hang on to Herrera, so United will need to decide if they want to up their bid for the 24-year-old and activate his release clause.
Reports are also claiming the champions have failed with a cheeky £10m bid for Roma skipper De Rossi. The 30-year-old has been with the Serie A club for over 13 years but has been linked with a move away this summer. However, the Express claim he has snubbed the advances of United in order to see out his career with his boyhood club.
Moyes refused to confirm or deny the bids when quizzed at his press conference on Friday, saying:
‘I hope we do a little bit of business before the window closes,’ he said.
We try not disclose our bids where possible and do it in a professional manner.’ Moyes is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail
