Perez: Man Utd Bid For Gareth Bale But He Wanted Real Move & We Got Him On The Cheap
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has claimed that champions Manchester United tabled a bid for Gareth Bale in the summer before he moved to the Bernabeu.
Despite the summer transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up to date on all the latest transfer news. Today, Real Madrid claim Man Utd bid for Gareth Bale.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has claimed that Manchester United tabled a bid for Gareth Bale in the summer before he moved to the Bernabeu and suggests the La Liga side actually got the Welshman on the cheap, according to Sky Sports News.
Bale’s future was the subject of much speculation throughout the summer with Madrid widely regarded as the hot favourites for his signature after it emerged he wanted to leave White Hart Lane.
However, it seems the former Spurs ace may have had the option to remain in the Premier League, with Perez claiming that champions Man Utd submitted a bid before Madrid made their move.
The Real supremo also revealed that Bale asked them to fulfill his dream and take him to the Bernabeu, and he feels they ended up getting the ‘best player available’ on the cheap, despite splashing out a world record fee to secure his services.
“Bale has come cheaply.
“Signing the best players out there is Madrid’s philosophy and Bale was the best available player on the market this summer. We had been following him for two years.
“Tottenham did not want to sell. We learned that Manchester United had made an offer and we made one ourselves.
“Since childhood he had had the dream of playing for Real Madrid and he asked us to make it possible for him to come.” Perez is quoted as saying by Sky Sports
Bale was linked with a move to United during the summer with some newspapers suggesting David Moyes men were prepared to pay up to £125m to get their man – although it was believed Spurs favoured selling abroad rather than to a domestic rival.
The 24-year-old ended up joining Madrid from Tottenham in an £86m deal and he scored on his debut against Villarreal earlier this month. He was forced to miss making his home debut against Getafe on Sunday after injuring his thigh in the warm-up, but Sky Sports claim he has now been passed fit to face Atletico Madrid this weekend.
