Rodgers Hoping To Beat Arsenal & Chelsea To £20m-Rated Playmaker
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a January move for Javier Pastore and is hoping to beat Arsenal and Chelsea to the PSG playmaker’s signature.
Despite the summer transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up to date on all the latest transfer news. Today, Brendan Rodgers is keen on signing Javier Pastore.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a January move for Javier Pastore and is hoping to beat Arsenal and Chelsea to the Paris Saint-German playmaker’s signature, according to the Express.
Pastore joined the big-spending French outfit in 2011 for £30m from Italian outfit Palermo, but after an encouraging first season that saw him score 13 goals and provide 6 assists, the playmaker’s form dipped considerably last season and he only managed 4 goals in his 33 league appearances.
He now finds himself out-of-favour under boss Laurent Blanc leading to question marks over his future and the Express claim that Liverpool have now joined Arsenal and Chelsea in showing an interest in the 24-year-old.
The newspaper suggests that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to beat the London duo to the Argentinean international’s signature and is confident he will be able to do so when the transfer window re-opens in January – despite the player carrying a price tag in the region of £20m.
Rodgers is intent on bringing in a marquee name after missing out on the likes of Willian, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Christian Eriksen in the summer and it seems Pastore could be the man he wants.
The report claims that the players agent, Marcelo Simanian, has already ruled out a return to Italy for his client and former PSG, Tottenham and Newcastle winger David Ginola believes Pastore could head to England in the winter if he continues to be left out at PSG.
“Why not? Anyone talented can do well in the Premier League,” Ginola told Express Sport
“If he doesn’t play until Christmas he will probably ask for a move in the winter transfer window. I’m pretty sure about that.”
“For Javier Pastore, if he stays too long and spends too much time on the bench that would be a problem for him and I’m sure his advisors will consider a move.”
