Transfer News: Benzema Set For January Move?
Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd have been placed on alert after Real Madrid told striker KariM Benzema to find another club ahead of the January transfer window.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Here, Karim Benzema could be heading to the Premier League in January?
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been placed on red alert after Real Madrid told striker Karim Benzema he is free to find another club ahead of the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.
The Frenchman has endured a difficult season so far – scoring just two goals – and his lack of work rate and form has seen him jeered by his own supporters in recent games.
The 25-year-old was subbed during Madrid’s dramatic 3-2 win over Levante on Saturday after a poor display and the Mirror claim his relationship with the Real fans and Madrid-based media is at an all-time low, which is likely to see him leave when the January transfer window opens.
The newspaper suggests Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd have all been alerted to the news that Madrid officials have told the strikers representatives to find him another club as they look to shake up their strike-force this winter.
The Gunners were strongly linked with Benzema in the summer before eventually signing former team-mate Mesut Ozil and a move to the Emirates would make sense as Arsene Wenger is currently over-reliant on Olivier Giroud up front.
Chelsea could also be in the market for another striker with Jose Mourinho’s current crop struggling for goals so far this season. Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba have all failed to find the target this term so we could see Mourinho raiding his former side for Benzema this winter if their form doesn’t pick up over the coming weeks.
United have endured a difficult start to life under new boss David Moyes but the Scot has been promised funds will be made available in January, so a move for a proven striker may be on the cards if the former Everton man wants to add some fire-power to his beleaguered squad.
