Premier League champions Manchester United have announced this morning that highly-rated winger Adnan Januzaj has signed a new five-year contract with the club.
Manchester United have announced this morning that highly-rated winger Adnan Januzaj has signed a new five-year contract with the club.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene after scoring a stunning double on full debut to secure a 2-1 win over Sunderland two weeks ago.
Speculation has been rife over his future with the youngsters contract due to expire at the end of the season but after weeks of negotiations, the Belgian-born attacker has finally committed his future to United after signing a contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until at least 2018.
David Moyes has expressed his delight at tying Januzaj down to a long-term deal and praised the players ‘exceptional’ talent. He told the clubs official website:
“I’m delighted that Adnan has committed his future to United. He is an outstanding talent and has impressed me consistently since I came to United in July. His balance, poise and ability to beat players is truly exceptional for a boy of his age. It’s great that he recognises that this club, with its tradition for developing young players and giving them a chance on the biggest stage, is the best place for him to be.”
The player has also expressed his pleasure at signing a new contract and claims he’s now ready to push for a regular first team place:
“It’s a great thrill to be able to sign for Manchester United. Since arriving here I have always felt like this was the right club for me. This season has been great for me – going on the pre season tour, making my debut in the Community Shield win at Wembley and then breaking into the team at Sunderland – it’s like a dream. I want to work hard now and establish myself as a Manchester United player.”
Januzaj joined United from Anderlecht in 2011 and has been hugely impressive in the youth and under-21 squads, with coaches tipping him for a bright future.
While his club future has now been resolved, his future at international level still remains up in the air with Belgium, Albania, Serbia and England all fighting for him to represent them at senior level – although the youngster is yet to commit to any nation.
How relieved are United fans that Januzaj has signed a long-term deal?
